THREADLOCKERS

Bondloc Threadlockers are single-component liquids that cure at room temperature to a hard, solid thermoset plastic when applied between steel, aluminium, brass and most other metal surfaces. They cure with the absence of air and when in contact with metal ions, the adhesive completely fills the gaps between mating threads to lock threads and joints. This prevents unwanted movement, loosening, leaks and corrosion. To further enhance their performance, Bondloc anaerobic formulations have been developed for applications with improved cure speeds, high temperatures and oil contamination.

The Bondloc threadlocking range has been developed to replace conventional methods used in the assembly industry such as flat and

spring washers, nylon lined nut, serrated bolt,  which can loosen under vibration, thermal expansion, and/or plastic deformation. These methods do not seal the thread as the space between the bolt and nut is all empty. They also require an extensive inventory of several fastener shapes and sizes and are prone to rust and surface damage.

KEY POINTS
  • Single-component – clean and easy to apply
  • Prevent unwanted loosening, leaks, and corrosion
  • Reduces costs over mechanical fittings
  • Resists vibration
  • Can be used on all sizes of fasteners – reduces inventory costs
  • Seal threads and increases friction

GASKET SOLUTIONS

Bondloc Gasket Sealant Solutions are single-component pastes/gels that cure at room temperature in the absence of air and when in contact with metal ions. Bondloc Gasketing products are used to prevent leakage of fluids or gases by forming an impervious barrier, when the seal must remain intact and leak-free. The gasket must be resistant to fluids and gasses and be able to withstand high temperatures. Bondloc gasketing products are self-forming gaskets that provide a perfect seal between components, with maximum face-to-face contact, eliminating flange face corrosion.

Used to replace conventional methods used in the assembly industry normally using various pre-cut gaskets, o-ring seals and profile packings which seal by compression. This means they can shrink, creep, they require
storage of multiple shapes to seal different flange shapes; they are costly with an intricate flange shape; they are susceptible to external or internal impact or pressure and they require additional machining or smooth machining to achieve a sealing with pre-cut gaskets.

KEY POINTS

  • Single-component – easy and clean to apply
  • Replace conventional gaskets – reduce inventory
  • Excellent instant seal
  • Fill all voids
  • No need for retorquing
  • High resistance to solvents
  • Resist high pressure when fully cured

CYANOACRYLATE ADHESIVES

Cyanoacrylate adhesives cure through reactions with moisture held on the surfaces to be bonded.

They require close fitting joints and usually solidify in seconds which has resulted in the universal generic name of “superglues”. Gelled variants are also available to allow bonding of wider gaps and are ideal for vertical or overhead surfaces.

RETAINING COMPOUNDS

Bondloc Retaining Compounds have an anaerobic cure system. Anaerobic means it cures in the absence of air and the presence of metal ions. The resin remains liquid until it is confined between metal parts. Using Bondloc Retainers when mounting cylindrical parts has distinct advantages over mechanical assemblies. Using retaining compounds allows a manufacturer to use slip-fitted parts with relaxed machining tolerances.

Conventional methods used in the assembly industry are positive drive (pins, keys and splines), friction drive (press-fit, shrink fit)

and welding/soldering. These methods have shortcomings such as fretting corrosion that causes a lower torque transmitting capability, and their machining is costly and lengthy to meet the right assembly tolerance.

KEY POINTS

  • Increase assembly reliability
  • Eliminate backlash in keys and splines
  • Increase strength of heavy press fits
  • Eliminate fretting corrosion
  • Seal against environmental corrosion
  • Eliminate high assembly stresses
  • Reduce variations in load transmission
